Today we rode a great 100k route that had us cross several parts of the 70.3 IM bike course. Typical of the bike course is this type of farm scenery: the low stone walls, farmers getting their tractors out and working the fields.
Generally the roads are pretty smooth, but be prepared for the occasional bad patch. I would make sure you have good quality, fairly new tires on your bike when you turn them in to Race Force. Some of the potholes can be a but tough. I saw at least 4 people with punctures today.
Local drivers are remarkably good natured about all the cyclists creating havoc in normally quiet lanes and towns. I bet I saw well over 500 cyclists in my ride today.
On or near the IM 70.3 bike course, we went through the towns of Selva (45k), Moscari (50k), Muro (66k), and Sa Pobla (76k). Most of Mallorca's interior villages are located on hilltops, which has busted my butt as we go into town. For you in the race though, generally the route will take you to the edge of town and not directly into it.
The hilltops usually have a fine old stone church on the top such as the one in my pics. If you have a windy day, the wind usually goes from west to east. Early in the morning as you head out of T1 going from Alcudia to the Port of Pollenca, you should have only light wind as it will be early in the day. The wind can often get strong here by 10-11 AM, but for most of you, that can be a plus as it is likely to be either a side or tailwind.
Over the next few days I hope to check out the big hills on the course as well as the swim area.
