And Finally from Mallorca - Grants final words of wisdom
March 30, 2014
Before I jump in to my final blog from Mallorca, let me give you the best reason yet why to ship your bike with Race Force – headaches and stress at the airport in Mallorca.
As we all know, airlines are getting really picky over the weight on bike shipments. I had to repack mine twice to make them happy, and I’m an experienced world bike traveler.
There was also the real pain in the tush of getting the bike to/from the airport and also even through the x-ray machine. So at Race Force, we take your bike, easy-peasy, cut your stress and are actually interested to hear your race stories. Total cost difference compared to shipping on the plane? Worth every penny!
My final ride was 145k with about 4500 feet of climbing and heaps of wind. Nonetheless, it really was great as my group worked together well. We had one good climb at the 75k point and went to the top of a mountain outside of Randa to a monastery. Later, our group leader, Tina, saved a surprise for us, a 100 meter long hill with a 17% grade. I was pretty confident I could make it and quickly stood up to tackle the hill. Being the oldest and far from the strongest in the group I knew that eyes were on me. Halfway up the hill I heard two bikes behind me topple over. I made it to the top with my heart rate monitor showing it’s highest level of the week. Well worth the risk to earn the bragging rights for the rest of the day.
Good luck to all of you in the 70.3 race in Mallorca. It really is a wonderful place to ride and race. If you can get out to the small villages on a “coffee ride”, it is worth it.
