I am a 37-year old amateur triathlete with a passion for life and love of the great outdoors, be it on foot, mountain bike, road bike or snowboard. I am joined on many of these adventures and events by my loyal companion and buddy – Chilli, the Labrador retriever.
My triathlon journey commenced one day when I was bored at the gym just after moving to Hertfordshire and I decide I wanted to learn to swim front crawl. So why not just learn to swim like most normal people would? Well, I love a challenge; both in the workplace and in my personal life so I figured back in 2011 If I entered a triathlon I would have no choice but to sink or swim – literally!
Luckily, on my first triathlon, the ladies only ‘shock absorber’ Eton sprint I managed to not sink! Albeit I half swam, half doggy paddled, until I got around the 400m open water swim. So that is where my journey began; fast forward a couple of years to now and I just completed my first Ironman race in August, in a respectable sub 13 hours time and as 44th female overall in a total field of 1600 athletes.
This coming season I am racing at IM Majorca 70.3, IM Austria and I was also lucky enough that my IM UK time in August qualified me for the Euro long distance championships in Amsterdam and this will be my ‘ debut' racing as GB age-grouper so I will be proud to be wearing GB kit for the first time. My future aim is to improve my IM race time sufficiently to have a crack at winning a place to Kona IM World Championships in the coming years although I’m aware I am a long way off that yet – but we all need a 5 year plan in our lives…..
My race kit is kindly provided for me by Carvalho custom so i have some lovely custom designed race kit for the coming season. I’m a fan of asics trainers but as I’ve changed my running style recently I’m looking at different options now as I’m getting blister now I’m running more on the forefoot.
My race bike is an azione Falce with Zipp 404/808s race wheels which are kindly supplied to me by azione carbon cycles as my bike sponsor. Mywetsuit is a Zoot. I chose it for fit - I tried literally loads of suits on but because I’m tall I had quite an issue finding one to fit as I’m mid way between small and medium in suits.
My favorite bit of training kit currently is my ultra aspire spry hydration vest for running and also my garmin 910XT that I couldn’t be without.
