I am a chartered physiotherapist and ergonomist, I am married and have 2 children (boys, age 12 and 10). I come from a running background and entered my first proper triathlon in 2012 not being able to swim front crawl. After lessons and more lessons I completed a half ironman, followed by another and then another! I am an average age grouper (40-44), but I am lucky enough to be supported by some great people - fitnaturally- who look after my nutrition, energised performance - fantastic mental strength coaching, my triathlon coach Ian Mayhew and of course Race Force!
I don't take myself too seriously, triathlon is a hobby that keeps me sane and gives me a sense of direction and satisfaction and I hope will encourage my children to participate in sport as adults and teach them that they are never to old to follow their dreams. Last year was my most successful year to date - I came 11th in my age group at IM Austria (11:12), and qualified as an elite runner at the Yorkshire marathon, where I was 1st in my AG and 10th woman overall.
Short term I would like to continue to enjoy racing and improving to my best ability. Long term I would like to run a sub 3 hour marathon and come in the top 5 of my age group at IM distance some day.
My Races this year: Virgin London marathon, Mallorca 70.3, IMUK, European long distance championships
Bike: Moda interval- Moda is a uk company and that's what swung the bike for me. I try and support uk businesses when I can. I love my Moda-it's a joy to ride and I love the design- I can often be found just sitting staring at it!
Wetsuit: zone3 aspire. I love love love this suit! It is so soft and fluid. Comfortable and just a pleasure to wear. I had a different brand as an entry level wetsuit and was looking for a new one before my ironman last year, I spoke to a couple of people that had used zone3 and that swing it for me. I was a very nervous open water swimmer but this suit have me confidence in the water. My favourite bit of kit apart from the above has to be one of my pairs of compression tights that I donn without fail after a hard training session or race - they genuinely make such a difference to my recovery. I also couldn't live without my Garmins- I'm stats geek and I love analysing the numbers!
