I'm Patrick Carroll, I'm 26 and from Walton in Liverpool, I currently work as a credit controller for Hilton hotels, whilst also studying revenue management. I started triathlon in 2009 after only starting exercising in 2008, Liverpool Tri being my first I caught the bug and started training for ironman triathlon in late 2009, my first being IM UK in 2010 in a time of 12:17, I then went on to do 3 more (outlaw, 2011, in 11:07, Wales, 2011, in 12:42 and Lanzarote, 2012, in 11:17), in late 2012 I qualified to race for GB in the european champs at Olympic distance, after which I had to start training for Marathon Des Sables (6 marathons in 6 days across the Sahara desert) which I completed in April 2013, 6 weeks later I raced Olympic distance at the European champs coming 8th in my category with a PB time of 2:08.
Racing for my country was one of the greatest experiences of my life, I went on to brake my PB again at Liverpool Tri 5 weeks later with 2:03. 2013 was a year were I truly pushed my body to it's limits, namely during MDS, which was and will be for a long while, the hardest challenge I have ever endured, I wanted to see what I was capable of and that race showed me that anything is possible.
Having experienced all of the above, I have entered 2014 with my sights set on a sub 10 hour IM and a Kona slot! Having only had aspirations to get across the finish line in previous years, this is my year to push! I am racing Bala middle distance, IM Nice and IM Sweden.I ride a Scott plasma 10, my first Tri bike and a bike that has done me proud so far in all my races and one of the only pieces of kit that I haven't changed numerous times over the years, along with my garmin, which I must say is my favourite piece of kit as without it I wouldn't have a clue whether the training I was doing was actually giving me any benefit! Haha.
