"Exciting news !!! we are all signed up for IM Austria next year #thebigone #reallyscary #omg - exactly a year away from today. Matthew is really good at just getting on with his training, but my hormones/ training and whole schedule have been a bit hit and miss in the last few weeks, so I decided I really had to enlist the help of a professional to ensure I stay focused and make the most of the training time that I have. So Simon has agreed to be my official trainer for the IM Austria. (I'll give him a little plug - #priority6, #crossfitoxfordoriginals #bestcoachever #thegwood08
Obviously he's super busy now he's expanding his crossfit gym and he works 16 hour days squeezing in all his commitments .... BUT he is the only man for the job!! He (miraculously ) got me from being a super fat, super miserable, lazy, couch potato to a 'relatively' fit and 'relatively' slimmer 70.3 finisher and it just wouldn't be right to be on this journey with anyone else. I'm assuming that he doesn't know a lot about triathlon (although no doubt he has hidden talents) but he was in the top hundred finishers in the 2013 Sultan Marathon des sables "the toughest foot race on earth". 251km across the Sahara over 5 days in 50 degree temperatures which requires an amazing amount of training discipline and endurance- all skills transferable directly to an IM. He's also not too shabby on a bike and whilst he doesn't teach it any more I have witnessed many a spin class where he could cycle for an hour at some ridiculous wattage whilst singing along to the backstreet boys, jump off the bike, change his t-shirt and go straight into a circuits class. I'm sure he won't mind me saying though that he's a little bit scared of swimming in murky lakes so no doubt I'll just be sent off to do my laps in the pool on my own. As the saying goes 'If you want something done ask a busy person' so I know he'll find the time to find out what I should be doing; then adapt it to my ability and then; the hardest bit, somehow make me actually do it even if it means literally dragging me along or pushing me up a hill or over a wall. They'll definitely be tears, I just hope they are more his than mine."
