Team Race Force - Grant Snr on conditions for Frankfurt
July 3, 2014
Preparations are underway around town as the scaffolding is going up at the finish line in old town and at the swim area. The pro field listed for Sunday is deep and fast. Some say it'll be the deepest field outside of Kona.
In spite of rapidly rising temperatures for Thursday and Friday, my gut tells me this will be a wetsuit swim. I swam the course last night and the water temp was 24 degrees. Looks like rain Saturday and I think that will keep the water cool.
Speaking of rain, it's in the forecast for Sunday. It rained hard two years ago when I raced. Nonetheless, I had a decent bike split, partially because I knew the course. If you don't know this course well, the course has many sharp turns, particularly in the many villages you will ride through. I suggest riding the first loop with a bit of caution which will allow you to familiarize yourself with the turns for the second loop. It's a hilly course, but only a couple of tough climbs.
The run is flat except where you cross the bridges over the Main river. Heaps of people out on the run course cheering you on, or rooting for you as we Yanks love to say!
