In a few weeks I will take part in the Ffit Conwy Llandudno Sea Triathlon. My first triathlon of the year so time to make sure I get a focus on for this event!
The first few months of the year have been about running (marathon in Paris) and until May everything has been about rafting for the European Championships in Slovenia. With a few rides and swims in between I have to say it has not been the most ideal preparation towards this triathlon. Nevertheless I feel fit and very motivated to take these last few weeks to prepare as well as I can.
I feel like the basic fitness is there. I will be working on my speed and will do some brick sessions to make sure I am physically prepared. I have reviewed the course and know I have got a sea swim, lapped course with a hill and sea front run to look forward to. This means I will make sure to surround myself with enough swimming buddies on my open water swim training and I won’t avoid to go out on windy days to create as many waves as I can. I have found a route around my house which simulates the bike route and will get my legs used to that. For the run... that is a run, which is not my favorite so I will aim to run of my bike a few times on a good speed slightly under the race distance and hope my legs will keep going on race day.
Apart from specific race focus on my exercise I feel like my triathlon equipment box needs some love and re-familiarization. I will be training with my race clothing, bike (as I have been using my cross country bike over the winter) and accessories like goggles. I might need to top up with elastic bands (for flying mount, note to myself practice this one as well at least once a week), tubes, talc powder, etc! Also I just got myself a new wetsuit and want to make sure it all suits well before my race.
I will be looking at travel arrangements over the next few days as I live in London and the race is quite literally miles away. A good friend of my lives in Bangor where I’m sure I can have a bed for the night! Having never been to her place that is a perfect combination for a good weekend!
Oh, the monthly aquathlon at the Lee Valley White Water Centre and swim for the Cotswold middle distance relay should kick me in to triathlon gear nicely J.
